pc or mac?
i've been thinking about getting a new computer lately, as mine is already a couple of years old, and will be incredibly outdated by the time i finish grad school. here at mars hill, there is a definite trend towards macs. i'm not sure if that's because of the rebellious, postmodern, artistic, challenge the mainstream attitude of most students, or just simple coincidence. but it makes me wonder, should i make the switch?
i grew up in a pc home, and my dad didn't really become "bilingual" until i was in my undergrad program. my brother has a mac, and he loves it - but he's also an amateur filmmaker and musician, so that makes perfect sense to me. so i know i wouldn't be shunned by my family if i decided to go with a mac. which is good.
what do you think?

Lacie...this shouldn't even be a discussion. I've used both, I still have both. But, when it came time to get a computer for the girls...it was a Mac. Nothing but the best. Enough said. :)
hands down mac. no question.
OK, I am the one who is biligual. Windows and OS X are almost clones now. If you want the cheapest machine and software available, or you want confidence that you can plug any known personal compter peripheral into it, get a PC. If you want the fewest possible problems, get a Mac.
Let me throw in my vote for PC; Macs are cute and fun and run your ipod easier than a PC, no doubt. But for serious work, like anything using numbers, accounting, spreadsheets, or (may I say) tax software, you gotta have a PC. Mac doesn't have the software for that stuff.
dear Lord lacie. i think you know where i stand on this matter.
not to start a fight with mom, but mac software is just as good as PC. most of the accounting software (quicken, quickbooks, turbotax) is on mac. i have actually found the mac version of word better than the PC version; just more features and easier to use. admittedly excel seems easier on pc, but i haven't had a chance to really test the mac version.
No fight, sjy, just the facts (*wink*). If I said that most of the art software (music, video) is available for PC, you would say, "But it's inferior!" and you would be right. I feel the same about the accounting software for the macs - the programs are actually different, with fewer options. It all comes down to what you use the computer for.
fine mom.
i was actually responding to your comment that "mac doesn't have the software for that stuff". i just wanted to clarify that the DO have the software (even though it may be 'inferior').
granted i've not used the accounting software for the mac. i have used quicken, but i think that program sucks for both mac and pc.
